Woman involved in Spitzer sex scandal pleads guilty

A young woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges that she ran an international prostitution ring that authorities say set up a sexual liaison between former Gov. Eliot Spitzer and a call girl. Cecil Suwal, 23, of the Bronx, admitted to U.S. District Judge Barbara Jones in Manhattan that for more than three years she took part in the conspiracy to run the Emperors Club VIP and launder the sex business' money.

Teen killed by tiger had drugs, alcohol in his system, report shows

SAN JOSE, Calif. _ The 17-year-old San Jose teen mauled to death by a San Francisco Zoo tiger on Christmas Day had some alcohol and pot in his bloodstream, according to a coroner's toxicology report. Carlos Sousa Jr. had .04 percent ethanol and 6.6 nannograms of Delta-9 THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, in his blood stream, according to a report performed almost six months ago by NMS Labs in Willow Glen, Pa.

Pakistani nuclear scientist denies selling bomb secrets, technology

New satellite photos show Amazon rainforest shrinking

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil _ New satellite photographs show that the destruction of Brazil's fragile Amazon rainforest has exploded this year, fueling fears that the government's efforts to stop deforestation have been fruitless. Brazil's DETER real-time monitoring system found that more than 430 square miles of forest, an area a bit smaller than the city of Los Angeles, vanished in the month of April, while about 2,300 square miles, larger than the state of Delaware, were destroyed between last August and April.

General Motors to cease production at 4 factories
