With a rollercoaster season behind them, the Arizona Diamondbacks are giving even non-believers something to cheer about this season.
Currently, Arizona is holding on to the best record in all of baseball. Never been to a game? Check out the D’Backs as they take on the Philadelphia Phillies this week. Here’s a game-day checklist to maximize your fun and minimize your expenses.
Buy D’backs stuff: Show your Arizona pride with a baseball hat, oversized foam finger or any of the other various fan paraphernalia. Try Just Sports instead of the fan shop at the arena and save some cash. Arizona Mills Mall, 5000 Arizona Mills Circle, Suite 105, Tempe, 480.755.7744
Pre-game it (and then post-game it): Drinks and food can get expensive at the field, so grab your friends and check out the game-day food and drink specials at any one these nearby bars: Jackson’s on Third,
245 E. Jackson Street, Phoenix, 602.254.5303; or Coach & Willie’s, 412 S. Third Street, Phoenix, 602.254.5272
Bring stuff in: As long as you don’t open your drinks (alcohol excluded), you can bring them in at the gate. Buy peanuts, Cracker Jacks or your favorite munchies at a nearby gas station and you’ll save a couple bucks. Circle K, 10 E. Buckeye Road, Phoenix, 602.253.2937
Get the cheap seats: $5 to $7 seats are the way to go if you don’t mind having a birds-eye view. The atmosphere is still great and you get a view of the whole field.
Arizona Diamondback vs. Philadelphia Phillies, Chase Field, 401 E. Jefferson Street, Phoenix, 888.777.4664 or 602.514.8400, Thursday, May 8,
12:40 p.m., $5-$215
