Located only two miles from Arizona State University, it's off the main drag enough to be a refreshing break from Mill Avenue but still a convenient drive or taxi ride away. No matter what your favorite genre, the Red Owl's got it. With live bands ranging from big band to country to hip hop you'll never get bored.
Every Friday and Saturday the bar holds a mini music festival with 12 bands from a selected genre performing on 2 stages, one in the main Red Owl room and the next in the adjacent Club Red making the venue accommodating for up to 1,200 people.
Drink specials vary daily to match the live music of the night and can be emailed to subscribers through the clubs weekly newsletter. Bar-goers can join by going to www.clubredswing.com.
A professional wooden dance floor and frequent brass band groups make Club Red the perfect destination for swing dancers across the Valley. If you're a newcomer to the swing scene there's no need to stress, Club Red offers $5 swing lessons every Wednesday night, no partner required.
When you're not busy dancing or enjoying live music Club Red and Red Owl offer a lot more to keep you entertained. If seafood is your thing then why not try the "Love Maine Lobster Claw," which looks like a normal claw vending machine only instead of trying to grab stuffed animals you are going for a live lobster.
There are also pool tables, dart boards, a great food menu with all the bar munchies you could want and two main bars with a third exclusive one in the VIP lounge. Dress code is laid back and casual, just like the crowd.
The Red Owl/Club Red, 2155 E. University Dr., Tempe, 480.966.4733, Wednesday-Saturday, 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., tickets prices and cover varies.
