The Monastery is unlike any other bar in the Valley.
First of all, the beer is surprisingly cheap, the place is huge, with a distinct Santa Fe-style design and the bartender wears a monk costume.
While all of those things are cool, the best part of the Monastery is that you can buy different types of meat, like a cheeseburger for $4 or a half-pound steak for $7.50, and do your own grilling in the back. They even offer garden burgers for the vegetarians.
That’s not even all; they have two full-size volleyball courts, two ping-pong tables, pool tables, foosball and a few video games.
Upstairs there’s a separate room with its own TV, offering a little privacy, along with a sizable patio overlooking the volleyball courts. Gazebos near a fire pit and several swings add more seclusion from the crowds that frequent the bar on weekends.
The week is littered with drink specials, making the cheap alcohol even cheaper. Monday and Wednesday the bar hosts Texas Hold ‘Em tournaments at 6:30 p.m. and Friday, Saturday and Sunday bands play on a stage in the back near the grills.
All in all, the Monastery has a little bit of something for everyone and offers a bar experience unlike any other. Don’t be surprised if you want to take a look at the whole property before you settle down for a drink or to grill.
