Were you listening to anything during the writing process?
I was probably listening to Sam Cooke and maybe even a little Sonny Smith.
Do you think Mister Heavenly is something that could become a full-time thing? You know, a make-a-second-album kind of project?
Do I think that? Maybe. We'll see how it goes. […] I wanna do it all. So I'm always going to try to do everything as much as I can until I get fired or, basically, that's it, until I get fired or let go. Gently let go.
If you're supposed to take drugs and trip out to your solo work [as discussed in an omitted part of the interview], what do you do to Mister Heavenly?
Dance. Dance like crazy. With a partner. Or maybe without a partner. But maybe with a partner. And maybe you don't have to be on drugs to enjoy Mister Heavenly.
Mister Heavenly w/Waters, Rhythm Room, Thursday, September 1, 7:30 p.m., $12 adv, $14 dos
