“Urban Elephants,” Everything from this ma-and-daughter raw-and-healthy food café looks delicious (the College Times editorial staff is shameless about stalking Pomegranate Café on Facebook), so we suggest grabbing a bite to eat before the screening of “Urban Elephants.” We also suggest sticking around for Phoenix Zoo’s senior elephant keeper, Steve Koyle, who will discuss and field questions about elephants after the screening. One-third of every ticket sale will be donated to Wildlife SOS India. Pomegranate Café, 4025 E. Chandler Boulevard, Ste. 28, Phoenix, 480.706.7472, Wednesday, August 22, 6 p.m., $15

Story Time Improv, Stop denying your inner 8-year-old his bedtime stories! There’s only so much CSI and SVU someone can watch before they need to reboot with this story time improv set inspired by pre-school – so BYOB (bring your own blankets) and snuggle pals – ‘cause Warpath Unicorn and Apollo 12 are gonna school you like it’s the ‘90s. Trunk Space, 1506 NW Grand Avenue, Phoenix, 602.256.6006, Wednesday, August 22, 7:30 p.m., $6

“Hunger,” You’ll never joke about going on a hunger strike again after seeing this film. The main character in Steve McQueen’s debut feature is Bobby Sands, played by Michael Fassbinder, a member of the Irish Republican Army who (actually) died during a hunger strike in 1981.
