WASHINGTON _ Hillary Clinton won a hard-fought Pennsylvania primary Tuesday, beating rival Barack Obama in a scrappy victory that she hopes will keep her underdog campaign alive to fight another day. The New York senator was carried to victory by whites, women, the working class and the elderly _ the third time she's been rescued from the brink of political death after must-win victories in New Hampshire in January and Ohio in March.

Fuel rule costs hit US automakers

WASHINGTON _ U.S. automakers face an estimated bill of $30.5 billion over five years to meet the fuel economy increases unveiled Tuesday by federal regulators _ roughly two-thirds of its entire $47 billion price tag, and far more than their Asian rivals. The plan by the Bush administration boosts fuel economy regulations 25 percent between 2011 and 2015 to a target of 31.

Removal of children from compound raises questions
