How refreshing to read an accurate portrayal of hypnotherapy with no mention of the myths that dog our profession.

I'm curious about the experiences of the sports stars referred to in this excellent article -- would you have print references for more details, please?

The only error in the well-written piece is the comparison of forgetfulness while driving with hypnosis. The ability to drive somewhere and arrive wondering how you got there is dissociation. Hypnosis, as your correspondent goes on to explain, is concentrated attention, focussed daydreaming, an immersion in something to the exclusion of surrounding distractions. Like being completely caught up in a movie or a novel.

Dr Knight,

I first heard of Phil Jackson and his alternative coaching methods by reading his book, Sacred Hoops: Spiritual Lessons of a Hardwood Warrior. I read this book quite some years ago when I was very young, but something about it intrigued me to re-read it over the years as I was growing up. He also has another book called More Than a Game, which I have not yet read.
I have also heard of a book called Great Under Pressure: Martial Arts and Sports Hypnosis. I have not read this either. But if you google sports and hypnosis, or a certain athletes name and hypnosis, there is a plethora of online resources that will surely help you find more information on sports hypnosis.
I hope this helps. Thanks for reading!
