Getting Naked

This show on Lifetime is hosted by the very loveable Carson Kressley (the blond guy from "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy") and its intentions are to teach real women with body issues to see themselves for the beautiful people they really are - flaws and all.
I've seen three episodes so far, spotlighting women that were probably ranging in sizes from 4 to 14. Nothing wrong with those sizes right? But it's incredible to see how skewed women's views of themselves are.
This girl who was featured on the episode I saw yesterday had a perfectly flat stomach and great butt that I would kill for! But she couldn't even look at her body without crying. It's awful, and it really made me realize that we all have insecurities. Although I see girls around campus and may think, "Wow she has a great body, lucky bitch," she most likely does not see herself that way. That's why I love this show so much.
Carson works with his guests to discover where these issues originated from, and they go through a series of activities to help these women see themselves as the rest of the world sees them.
One exercise the women are told to do is strip to their bra and panties, and place themselves in a line of other very real women of all different sizes to understand the way they view themselves as opposed to how they really are. It's inspiring to see these girls take off their robes like it's nothing, while they're so not the typical size 2 perfect supermodel that we're bombarded with usually on television.
Finally, they are fitted for the perfect bra and panties, which I've already been inspired to go do myself, and then they have a nude photo shoot! I'll admit this even made me as a viewer a bit uncomfortable, because I could never imagine doing something like that and I really felt for these women, because that would be difficult.
But they all end up doing it and they look amazing.
I'm just happy there is finally a show on television that has intentions to make us feel better about ourselves and not worse. Remember, as Carson says on the show, "0 is not a size, it's a warning sign!"
