The Sun Devil Football team will be rocking fresh, new threads this upcoming season.
Sun Devil Athletics has revealed a new on-field option for the fall with a uniform that pays homage to Arizona’s history as a highly ranked copper-producer.
The uniform has ample amounts of copper-colored accents, while the rest of the gear is in an anthracite hue (aka black). The helmets will include copper facemasks and decals.
ASU’s baseball team debuted black and copper uniforms back in 2012 during the centennial celebration. The football team is the first college football program in the state to include copper in the majority of the uniform.
While maroon and gold will continue to be part of the uniform options, the new threads are an effort by ASU to expand the school’s image.
“With the support of a great partner in Nike and tremendous donors, we are able to explore new and unique ways to represent our home state of Arizona as well as continue to reimagine Sun Devil Athletics,” says Ray Anderson, vice president for university athletics at ASU, in a press release.
Lloyd Carrington, redshirt junior cornerback for the team, says the new uniforms mix traditional and modern styles.
“They allow us to have swag with a revolutionized twist, while maintaining a prideful connection with the Sun Devil fans from the past, present and future,” he says in the press release.
The uniform is a new option for the team, but a kick-off date for them has not been selected yet.
